THE MAZE RUNNER.
I wait outside the cinema for my friend to turn up, excitement jiggling in my stomach.  We head into the cinema clutching our freshly popped popcorn and refreshing drink. Maya, Alexa and I take a seat in the middle row and wait in anticipation for the movie to start. Colour bursts onto the screen bringing everyone's attention to face it. I watch the movie, eyes glued to the screen, almost like I was in a trance. Damn it my popcorns run out!  I should of got a medium. When the movie finishes I walk out of the cinema chatting excitedly about the movie to my friends. I absolutely loved the Maze Runner and I can't wait for the second movie.

Hoot

Hoot is a book about a boy called Roy, who makes unlikely friends in a new town, Coconut cove. As soon as he steps foot in the bus he is bullied by a boy named Dana Matherson. He sees a strange boy running down the street and wants to find out more about him. He eventually does through a girl named Beatrice, who is the running boys stepsister. Together they persevere to stop construction at Mother Paula's pancake house where the homes of the burrowing owls are living.
My favourite character was Beatrice, even though she was a bit of a bully at the start I like it how she stood up for her step brother and choose to trust Roy even though she didn't know him all that well. Also because she stuck by Roy's side to help save the owls.
My least favourite character was Dana Matherson, He was just so absuvive to Roy and a big, fat bully. If I was Roy I would not be able to stand him!
My favourite part of the book was when Roy followed the running boy into the forest and showed him the cotton mouth moccasins.
I think the message in the book was bullying, since there was a lot of it in the book. Also another message was standing up for others and for what you believe in.
The rating I would give it is probably 5 out of 10.
I'm looking forward to seeing the size of the cotton mouth Moccasins in the movie.

Aida

Recently our school went to see the production/musical by Rotorua boys and girls high school. It was an amazing show with a lot of singing! The sets were really well done and it was obvious they had put a lot of work into it. So overall it was really cool to watch. My favourite part was when this little boat went across the stage really slowly!

30 day book challenge.

Today we did a activity where Miss Downard wrapped up 25 books and put keywords on the wrapping. On Miss Downards computer she spun a random name picker and when your name came up you had to go up and pick a book off the floor or steal one from someone else. Once everyone had got there books there was an opportunity for people to ask you if they wanted to swap books with you, you could decline though. Then Miss Downard picked people to open there books, it was pretty exciting opening them! I got a book called 'take back the skies' I have only read a little bit but so far it is good.

Today I am arguing whether or not the government should help pay for university for those whose parents cannot afford it. I believe every child in New Zealand deserves to have the opportunity  to go to university, to learn, to expand their knowledge and to become an independent adult. But also to become part of the community, to be accepted by others, to make friends and colleagues that will support them throughout their journey. The fees for University are rising higher and higher, the average debt for a graduate is $27,000.                                                                                                      This is a struggle for many graduates as there are not many jobs for graduates when they get there degree. Some people believe that it should be free but I do not. I would be happy to donate and raise money for the kids that can not afford it but having it free is a bit extreme. If the government was to give money for all the kids that can't afford it we would most definitely be broke and there would be no money for other causes. I'm not saying its not important but you have to think of other problems that need money to help them. I believe the government should help this, My opinion is that people should have the chance to do something they are interested in. If they want to be a doctor, an engineer a teacher they should be able to at least try. Just think if this was your child, not getting the right to go to university to learn, you would want the government to help, right?

If one of these children were mine, I would want the government to support this cause. So what if its not your child, don't you think children should get education, so they can have a life of their own, so they can try new things? Children deserve to go to school, to have an education. It does cost a lot of money for your children to head off to university and money is a struggle to get hold of. I'm guessing that most of you want your child to have a future, to have the best for them, for them to succeed in life. Some of you may be thinking that the government is not contributing enough but I can a sure you they are doing there best.                                                                                                                   As I said earlier some people believe it should be free, but it is unfair for the parents who can afford it to pay for there child and for the other parents who can''t afford it but there child would still be getting the same education but for free. We advise if you are struggling with the money to take a loan and pay it off later on, not straight away. Students shouldn't be expected to be able to study for free, it has its costs, just like everything else in this world. If people pay for university, I think they would value it more if it is free it might encourage students to take it easy and just relax. If not as many people went straight to university after finishing school, instead taking a holiday it would mean the cost per student would be cheaper. For my conclusion I will say this every child deserves a education but it should not be free.

My trip to Devon.
Last week Some of our school went on a sports exchange with a school in New Plymouth. I went for Soccer.

Day 1: I woke up, butterflies of excitement in my tummy. My mum drove me to school, I was so excited I could hardly sit still  When I got there I went over and lined up with the girls soccer team. We then hopped on the bus and prepared ourselves for a long... bus ride. Being on the bus for 5 hours was not so fun! I got a little restless and was so happy when we stopped at the big apple cafe. We ate our morning tea there, then hopped back on the bus. Our next stop was at a little park where we had lunch and did a little run with our soccer team on a wobbly bridge and then we ran up a big hill. There was now only 45 minutes to go! When we finally arrived at Devon school, we went into the hall and got paired up with our billets. My friend Maya and I billeted together. We got billeted by a girl called Chloe. She was very nice and bubbly. Chloe took us to the hairdressers to get our hair washed, as her mum was a hairdresser. It felt really nice because he massaged your head. After that she took us to the movies, we went and saw Guardians of the Galaxy. It was a cool movie and we all got popcorn, a drink and an ice cream. Then we also got to play on the arcade machines. It was an AWESOME day!

Day 2:  Today was the day we did our sports battles. I woke up and got ready for the sports exchange.  When we got to school they gave us a powhiri and then we went down to the soccer field to warm up. At 10:00 we were fired up and ready to play. The game started off okayish but Devon were soon 2 points ahead. Our team didn't give up though, we fought back and managed to get 2 goals in so the final score was 4 to Devon and 2 to us. It was disappointing we didn't win but our team still played an Amazing game. Sadly Devon won the trophy, but Mokoia headed to the pool in high spirits. The pools were so much fun!!! They had 2 hydro slides and my favourite was the top one, were you literally went straight down at the start. After the pools we went back to school and our billets collected us. We went home and just hung around, then we headed off to the Disco. The Disco was really cool and I did a lot of crazy dancing with my friends!!!! There was a smoke machine at the disco and it weirdly set off the fire alarms so we had to stand out in the cold for a while! Our last night we stayed up late.

Day 3: In the morning we were a bit sad to leave. Our billet gave us a hug and then we waved to her as we hopped on the bus. The bus ride home was very boring!!!! although there was lots to talk about I'm pretty sure every one on the bus breathed a sigh of relief as we hopped of at the big apple cafe. We had a yummy lunch and then I bought an ice block and a bag of lollies to eat on the way home. I had an awesomely, amazing, fabulous time at Devon and I will never forget it.

In the School holidays my family, my nana and my cousins from Australia all went to Fiji together. We stayed at Plantation Island resort. We stayed in a little bure and we were really close to the beach, and we could snorkel right off the beach by the barge. We went on a couple of awesome snorkeling trips, there were so many different and colorful fish to look at. We also saw a sea snake while snorkeling! a bit freaky at first but really cool watching it in its habitat. There was a big inflatable course with two slides.  My sister, brother and I all had races, slipping of lots but having loads of FUN! We went on a Dolphin Reef safari and we were lucky enough to see them! It was so cool seeing them! and the water was just so beautiful and clear. I had the most AMAZING holiday!!!!!!!!!

I personally think this is a inspirational video because Lisa tamati has the guts to run races through extreme climates and running 250kms in some races. She is a Truly amazing person and the one thing I love about her is that she never ever gives up!
So far I have read 1 chapter of my new book club book. It is about a boy called Day who is wanted by the republic for assault, theft and many more things. His mother thinks he is dead and day thinks it is safer for her to think he is dead. A girl called Tess is Days accomplice and keeps an eye out on him. A plague has hit somewhere called the lake sector hard, they are going to peoples doors and if they don't open up within ten seconds the solider kicks the door down. The drill is that the soldiers get a blood sample from each family member then they put it into a handheld reader and check if anyone has the plague, if someone has it they plant a big red X on the front door.

Among the Hidden

My Prediction is that Luke will feel uncomfortable in his new home I think he will make a plan and maybe roam the city streets, using his ID card and I think he will realise that he is safe now and i think he will also help some shadow children but while helping them he will be put in prison and there he will find Jen alive

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

We are reading a interesting book named Among the hidden, It is about a boy who has to stay hidden because he is a shadow child.

Fractured fairytale

She looked out miserably at the grey, misty sea hanging under the cliffs. Everything had gone; she had no parents, no family nothing at all. There was no happiness, no excitement in fact nothing at all; All Pearl felt inside was misery. Her parents had committed suicide from too much fish eating; she didn't have any siblings either. She staggered back to her house, well hardly a house more of a rambled shack of sticks, twigs, ferns anything that could instalate her from the cold bitter winds of early autumn. She daintily crawled inside her hut, finding a spot, then slowly falling into a deep sleep. She woke up with a start breathing in the fresh sea air. Her jet black hair glistened in the cold sharp winds. As her pearly pink dress swept across her bare legs, although the cold winds had put her off a swim, she rose to the occasion and quickly slipped on her swimsuit as she gingerly felt the blue sea. She dove in smoothly the silky water concealing her in its warmth as a strange tingling sensation suddenly causing her to spin rapidly. She looked down anxiously soon discovering her legs had vanished and in their place a beautiful gleaming white tail fading into a bright pink, she gasped in shock to find she could breathe! Suddenly a dark shape loomed overhead, a deep voice boomed in pearls ear as the mysterious figure suddenly spoke “you have been cursed child” as the shadow immediately disappeared. Her parents were gone; she had lost everything and now this? Unbelievable! Pearl rose to the surface her new tail powering her up.  She looked miserably at her home, tears smarting at her eyes turning to drips rolling down her cheeks, as she drifted underwater she glanced around at her surroundings “well she thought this is my new home”. Thoughts spun around her head, as she zoomed smoothly slicing through the clear water. She came to a halt and noticed a faint glimmer of light in the dull sea curiosity taking over her. Pearl swam in closer but in her concentration she banged into another of her kind, a mermaid well actually in fact about 50 of them. They fired questions at her; she answered as best as she could um hi my names pearl and um I got cursed and I don’t know what to do! She felt a sudden relief as she got it off her chest. The other mermaids were surprised but took her under their wing fussing over her, caring for her, making her feel welcome. She almost felt like they were real sisters now. She felt a bubble of happiness surge through her as she thought well maybe; just maybe its going to be alright.
This is a collage of the awesome time we had at camp!

My name is Tegan and I'm 13 years old and I am in the year 8 digital class at Mokoia intermediate. I love running, swimming and I like trying different kinds of sports. I love hanging out with my friends and being on the lake, skiing and biscuiting. I live on a sheep and beef farm called Watitiro not far  from Lake Rotoiti. I love living on a farm because of the freedom and I love caring for the baby lambs and calf's. I love to run cross country races and I also like to bake cupcakes. I have a mum, a dad, a brother and a sister. They're names are Jo, Blair, Clay and Ella, we are all quite outgoing and we like to be in the great outdoors. We have two cats and a dog. There names are Mistcheif, Bella and Lucy. Bella is my cat. I have amazing, supportive family and friends. I hope you learnt something about me!
We had a very fun maths session yesterday, were we did a challenge where you had to make the highest tower out of dry noodle sticks and mini marshmallows. My group successfully won the challenge! We also did a science experiment where we put milk and red-bull together and we observed what happened. It was very exciting to watch what happened.

In class this term we are looking at the novel 'Wonder'. It is about a boy who has a deformed face and is entering school for the first time, but having a hard time making friends. Today we made a tagxedo with all the keywords from the chapter. I have already read this book and I am enjoying doing a study on it. It is a great book and has a meaning to it which is... 'Don't judge a book by its cover'.
